Our founder learned the craft of brush making in Kyoto, and then returned to Edo to serve as brush maker to the Tokugawa Shogunate. The demand for scrub brushes continued to grow throughout the city however, so in 1718, with official permission, he opened his own store, Edoya, at its present location.
With the coming of the Meiji Period and increasing Westernization brush making became big business. Founded on traditional handcrafting techniques, but ever ready to meet modern needs, Edoya today has broadened its product line to include clothes brushes, hair brushes, cosmetic brushes and a wide range of other brushes for a variety of different uses.
